Mijn WordPress site is gehackt. Wat nu?

Het gene dat je absoluut niet moet doen is in paniek raken. Mocht je website echt gehackt zijn, is het altijd mogelijk om hier iets aan te doen. Maar ga eerst eens na of de website wel echt gehackt is. Dit kan op verschillende manieren achterhaald worden.

Een aantal voorbeelden hiervan zijn als volgt:

  • Rare melding in Google

    Als je de naam van je website in Google intikt, krijg je de melding: ‘deze site kan schade toebrengen aan jouw computer’. Hier zie je vaak als snel aan dat je website is gehackt.
    Een andere melding kan zijn: ‘De volgende website bevat malware’.

  • Rare statistieken

    Iets wat ook vaak duidt op een gehackte website, is een rare afwijking in de bezoekersstatistieken. Je hebt dan ineens heel veel bezoekers erbij die niet te verklaren zijn. Deze bezoekers komen ook vaak uit het buitenland.

  • Geïndexeerde pagina’s

    In Google kun je kijken wat alle geïndexeerde pagina’s zijn van jouw website. Door in Google het volgende in te typen ‘site:domeinnaam’, wordt er een lijst weergegeven met alle geïndexeerde pagina’s van jouw website. Mochten hier rare pagina’s tussen staan die je niet kent, is de kans aanwezig dat je website inderdaad is gehackt.

Zo zijn er nog een aantal manieren om te achterhalen of jouw website daadwerkelijk is gehackt. Mocht je dus na deze manieren nog steeds twijfelen, neem dan contact op met je host of kijk even op Google naar meer manieren.

Hoe los ik het probleem op?

Als je inmiddels weet dat je website is gehackt, is het belangrijk om te weten hoe je dit kan oplossen. Hoe zorg je er weer voor dat je de website kunt herstellen en weer de enige bent die toegang heeft tot jouw website?

Het is belangrijk dat je zo snel mogelijk in actie komt. Hoe langer je wacht met handelen, hoe meer dingen er met jouw website gedaan kunnen worden. Het kan ook zijn dat, in het geval de gehackte website, te lang online staat, het geïndexeerd wordt door Google. Dit betekent dat jouw website ontzettend hard zal zakken in zoekresultaten. Een proces waar waarschijnlijk veel tijd en moeite in is gestopt.

De volgende acties kunnen ondernomen worden om het probleem met de hack op te lossen.

  • Back-up

    Mocht je dit nog niet hebben gedaan, maak dan zeker een back-up van de huidige staat van de website. Als je dit niet doet en het duurt een tijdje voordat je de hack heb opgelost, kan het zo zijn dat de website helemaal is verpest en het heel lang duurt voor dit weer in orde is.

  • Wachtwoorden wijzigen

    Waarschijnlijk had je hier zelf ook al aan gedacht. Je wachtwoorden wijzigen is in dit geval even heel belangrijk. Doe dit voor FTP, de database en je CMS. In het geval er via jouw e-mail berichten worden verstuurd, is het raadzaam om dit wachtwoord ook even te veranderen. Vervolgens is het slim om een goede virusscanner op je computer te installeren en deze te laten draaien opzoek naar software dat virussen bevat.

  • Updates

    Het kan voorkomen dat het te maken heeft met verouderde versies van bepaalde plugins of thema’s. Het is daarom raadzaam om je WordPress, plugins en thema’s allemaal te updaten. Dit zorgt er niet voor dat de website gelijk weer helemaal in orde is, maar het is wel een goed begin.

  • Hack vinden

    Het is een aanrader om de website te scannen om de hack te kunnen achterhalen. Dit kan je doen door bijvoorbeeld WordFence te installeren. Deze gratis Firewall plugin kan een uitgebreide scan doen waar je precies kunt achterhalen waar de hack zich bevindt. Voordat deze scan gedaan kan worden moet je de volgende opties instellen: ‘scan theme files against repository versions for changes’ en ‘scan plugin files against repository versions for changes’. Als deze opties zijn ingesteld, kun je beginnen met de scan. Vervolgens kun je de bestanden terug zetten naar hun originele staat. Daarnaast kan je via WordFence ook achterhalen of er bestanden zijn die niet in de installatie horen. Hiermee kunnen hackers vaak nog een keer naar binnen dringen. WordFence kan deze bestanden achterhalen en verwijderen.

  • Nieuwe geheime sleutels

    Ook als je alle wachtwoorden hebt aangepast, kan het zijn dat de hacker nog steeds toegang heeft tot de website. Dit komt omdat er een lopende sessie actief is. De hacker gebruikt waarschijnlijk de coockies van eerder, om deze toegang te krijgen. Deze coockies kun je uitschakelen door nieuwe geheime sleutels te genereren. Dit kun je doen in het WP-config bestand. Mocht je hier geen verstand van hebben, zoek dan hulp bij iemand die dit wel weet.

  • Scan een laatste keer

    Als je alle stappen die hierboven zijn beschreven hebt doorlopen, is het handig om een laatste keer te scannen. Doe de WordFence scan opnieuw. Als deze geen potentiële gevaren spot, kan je ervanuit gaan dat de website schoon is.

Wat zijn de valkuilen bij het laten bouwen van een website?

Voordat je een nieuwe website laat bouwen en op zoek gaat naar een webbouwer, is het belangrijk om een aantal dingen op orde te hebben. Om te beginnen moet je kijken naar je huidige website. Welke pagina’s presteren hier goed? Wat gebeurt er met de URL’s van pagina’s? Daarnaast kun je kijken naar goed presterende zoekwoorden of zoekwoorden die op de huidige website nog niet goed presteren. Welke woorden wil je juist wel op gevonden worden? Dit zijn al een aantal dingen waar je goed naar moet kijken voordat je de stap neemt om een nieuwe website te laten maken.

De valkuilen

Het laten bouwen van een website gaat dan ook niet altijd zonder slag of stoten. Er zijn een aantal valkuilen waar je goed op moet letten om niet de verkeerde keuzes te maken. Een aantal van deze valkuilen zullen hieronder worden behandeld.

1: geen goed plan

Voor de webbouwer aan de slag gaat is het belangrijk dat je samen al goed hebt gepraat over jouw wensen en behoeften. Je moet bijvoorbeeld aangeven wat jouw doelen zijn en hoe jij wilt dat de website er ongeveer uit moet komen te zien. Aan de hand van deze criteria kan de webbouwer aan de slag gaan. Het is namelijk niet de bedoeling dat de webbouwer zonder jouw doelen en andere criteria, een website gaat bouwen.
Een webbouwer zonder goed plan zal je een heel stuk minder geld opleveren dan een webbouwer die eerst goed naar je luistert en vervolgens een goed plan heeft om een fantastische website voor je te bouwen.

2: Verkeerde CMS keuze

Voordat je op zoek gaat naar een webbouwer, moet je eerst zorgen dat je weet welke CMS het beste bij jou past. Dit is belangrijk omdat het zonde is als je een webbouwer een website laat maken maar er vervolgens achter komt dat dit CMS niet helemaal bij jouw wensen en behoeften aansluit. Dit kost je alleen maar extra geld en je hebt uiteindelijk niet de website die je voor ogen had. Kies dus eerst het juiste CMS!

3: Boom-bust cyclus

Dit proces is zo genoemd door webdesigner en publicist Paul Boag. Hiermee doelt hij op het feit dat sommige bedrijven eens in de 2 á 3 jaar een compleet nieuwe website laten bouwen. De oude website kan dan in zijn geheel weg, wat natuurlijk ontzettend zonde van het geld en de tijd is. Het is beter om steeds wat kleine aanpassingen te doen aan je website. Dit zorgt ervoor dat je heel goed kan meten wat de veranderingen met je website doen, je bezoekers wennen makkelijker aan kleine veranderingen en het bespaart een hele hoop geld!

4: Geen aandacht voor SEO

Hoe leuk een mooie website ook is, als de SEO van de website niet in orde is, zullen de resultaten behoorlijk tegenvallen. Zonder aandacht te besteden aan de SEO van je nieuwe website, is de website namelijk niet vindbaar. Een voorbeeld hiervan is de lancering van de nieuwe responsive website van Transavia. Alle pagina’s op deze nieuwe website kregen een andere URL. Hier was echter niet goed naar gekeken. Dit resulteerde in allemaal 404 foutmeldingen als mensen in Google op  een zoekresultaat van de website klikten.

5: Geen aandacht voor performance van de website

Een website kan er nog zo mooi uitzien maar een website die niet lekker werkt, levert weinig op. De gemiddelde internetbezoeker wacht ongeveer 4 seconden op een website alvorens hem weg te klikken. Het is dus heel belangrijk om ervoor te zorgen dat jouw website voor die tijd geladen is. Mocht dit niet het geval zijn, kun je verwachten dat de meeste bezoekers van je website al snel weg zijn. Het is ook belangrijk dat de website goed werkt op mobiele apparaten. Tegenwoordig kijken onwijs veel mensen naar je website via een mobiel apparaat. Als dit niet goed werkt heb je echt een probleem. Zorg dus voor een responsive design!

Ben je er klaar voor?

Nu je deze vijf valkuilen weet, zul je hier vast en zeker op letten voordat je een website wilt laten bouwen. Zorg dat je van tevoren precies weet wat je wilt. De website moet aan jouw wensen en behoeften voldoen.

#2 Drupal

Ook Drupal is een CMS van grote omvang. Wereldwijd draaien er al meer dan een miljoen websites op dit CMS. Het is voornamelijk qua low level goed voor SEO. Het is een CMS dat voor de nieuwelingen behoorlijk nieuw is.

#3 TYPO3

TYPO3 is een CMS dat voornamelijk is bedoeld voor grote websites. Het is een krachtig CMS dat veel uitbreidingen kent en veel voordelen zal bieden qua performance als je een groot aantal pagina’s hebt. TYPO3 is een CMS dat een eigen ‘typoscript’ heeft. Dit heeft veel weg van een API. Het is belangrijk om dit typoscript te leren alvorens er een website gebouwd wordt.

Voordelen:

  • Open source
  • Veel gratis modules
  • Gebruiksvriendelijk
  • Goed mogelijk om uit te breiden
  • Goed geoptimaliseerd voor SEO

Nadelen:

  • Lastig om leveranciers te vinden in Nederland
  • Complexiteit
  • Niet altijd installeerbaar bij hostingpartijen
  • Installatie is ingewikkeld
  • Configuratie is ingewikkeld

#4 Joomla

Joomla is een groot CMS dat is geschreven in PHP en een MySQL database gebruikt. Joomla wordt veel gebruikt en is een betrouwbaar systeem. Dit open source systeem wordt door alle ontwikkelaars wereldwijd ontwikkelt.

Voordelen:

  • Open source
  • Betrouwbaar
  • Gemakkelijk zelf inhoud aan te passen
  • Grote keuze aan specialisten
  • Flexibel
  • Meerdere redacteuren mogelijk

Nadelen:

  • Lastiger in gebruik dan WordPress
  • Sommige onderdelen zijn niet geheel logisch
  • Updates zorgden vaak voor problemen
  • Modules zijn lastiger te vinden
  • Plugins kunnen elkaar soms in de weg zitten

#5 Shopify

Shopify is de meest gebruikte webshop software ter wereld. Het is een CMS dat heel eenvoudig te gebruiken is. Voor een leek is het gemakkelijk om een toffe webshop neer te zetten. Sinds 2019 is shopify ook in het Nederlands, wat voor extra gemak zorgt.

Voordelen:

  • Gratis proefperiode van 14 dagen
  • Erg eenvoudig
  • Geen technische kennis voor nodig
  • Alle veel gebruikte betaalmethodes worden geaccepteerd
  • Veel designs staan al klaar
  • Veel apps die de functionaliteit kunnen bevorderen
  • Gemakkelijk te koppelen met PostNL, DHL, DPD en UPS via Sendcloud

Nadelen:

  • Voor sommige funties moet je een app installeren
  • Geen gratis abonnement na de proefperiode.
  • Kan vrij prijzig zijn
  • Kwetsbaarder voor hackers
  • Vanuit Shopify moeilijk over te stappen naar ander platform

Conclusie

Nu je van de bovenstaande vijf CMS systemen hebt gezien wat de voor- en nadelen zijn, kun je zelf een goede overweging maken. Het is belangrijk dat je goed kijkt naar welk CMS het beste bij jouw website past. Maak geen overhaaste beslissingen want het is een belangrijke keuze!

Dit betekend echter niet dat deze plugins ook van je server zijn verwijdert. Ze staan er namelijk nog wel op, alleen maak je geen gebruik van de plugins op je website.
